a. Minimum age of 21 years old on or before the date of appointment, unless appointed under section 830.1(c) of the Penal Code. (Government Code section 1031.4)
b. Being legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law
c. A background investigation indicating the individual is of good moral character
d. Minimum education of United States high school graduation or passage of GED or other approved equivalency test
e. Be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, which might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer
f. No disqualifying conduct as defined under Government Code section 1029. Disqualifying conduct includes a felony conviction (in any state or military branch, and includes felonies that were later reduced to misdemeanors), a current or former police officer placed on the National Decertification Index

The process takes a significant amount of time. You can expect a four-month process to complete all the following steps.

The physical agility test is based on the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission Work Sample Test Battery.
OBSTACLE COURSE/AGILITY RUN:
Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, multiple curb-height obstacles, and a 34-inch-high obstacle that must be vaulted.
BODY DRAG:
Lift and drag a 165-pound lifelike dummy for 32 feet.
CHAIN LINK FENCE:
Run 5 yards to a 6-foot chain link fence, climb over fence, and continue running for another 25 yards.
SOLID FENCE CLIMB:
Run 5 yards to a 6-foot solid fence, climb over fence, and continue running for another 25 yards
500 YARD RUN:
Run 500 yards.
